Interlaken Switzerland with the Parents!!

Hello fellow travel lovers! ??

In May 2023, I embarked on an unforgettable journey through Central Europe aboard the Avalon Vista river cruise long boat and couldn't wait to share all the details with you! This trip was especially meaningful, as my husband and I traveled with my parents, who are in their 70s, making this experience both a family bonding and an exploration of our roots.

A Journey Begins: Zurich, Lucerne, and Grindelwald

Our adventure started in the stunningly beautiful city of Zurich. The blend of modern and historical architecture set the tone for our trip. During our time in Zurich, we also ventured to the charming towns of Lucerne and Grindelwald. The houses here looked straight out of the movie "Heidi" — picture-perfect chalets nestled in the Swiss Alps, with flower boxes bursting with vibrant blooms. It was truly like stepping into a storybook.

From Zurich, we made our way to the equally charming city of Basel. We explored timeless alleys, marveled at the intricately designed buildings, and soaked in the rich culture of the region. It was the perfect prelude to what lay ahead.

Sailing Through History: Castles and Vineyards Along the Rhine River

Once we set sail from Basel, the magic truly began. Cruising along the Rhine River was like flipping through a storybook. The sight of majestic castles perched atop hills and the lush vineyards cascading down the riverbanks was nothing short of enchanting. Each turn of the river revealed a new wonder, and the serene beauty around us made every moment aboard the Avalon Vista pure bliss.

Reconnecting with Heritage: The Black Forest, Germany

A particularly poignant highlight of our trip was visiting the Black Forest in Germany, the very region my father's family had emigrated from. Walking through this historical land, with its dense woodlands and quaint villages, brought our family history to life. It was a deeply moving experience, creating new memories while reflecting on our roots.

An Epic Finale: Amsterdam

Our journey concluded in the vibrant city of Amsterdam. This city is a melting pot of cultures, with its winding canals, iconic bike paths, and historic museums juxtaposed against its famously racy shops and unique street vibe. A standout moment here was our guided tour of the Rijksmuseum, which delved into the life and legacy of Rembrandt, offering fascinating insights into his incredible works and how they shaped the world of art.

Another unforgettable highlight was our visit to the Keukenhof Botanical Garden. Even though we visited at the end of the bloom cycle, it was nothing short of amazing and colorful. Imagine strolling through fields where 7 million tulips and other flower bulbs are planted, filling the air with vibrant hues and delightful fragrances. We were even able to purchase bulbs to plant in our own yard, and they will be shipped directly to us in the fall. Such a wonderful souvenir to bring a piece of Holland back home!

The diversity of Amsterdam is truly a marvel, each district offering a different flavor and insight into history.

For anyone considering a river cruise, I cannot recommend it enough. It was my first river cruise experience, and Central Europe welcomed us with open arms and picturesque scenes that will forever be etched in my memory. If you haven't yet, "Don't Wait to Make Memories!" ??

Until our next adventure, happy travels! ??
